Classes
The Academy is made up of small classes taught by well-trained, caring staff in an adult, business-like atmosphere. Schedules are tailored to students’ needs. And, teachers are skilled in connecting students to community resources that can help break down barriers to students’ success. The Academy has a student-teacher ration of 8:1.
Academic courses are competency-based and aligned to the Virginia Department of Education academic standards. Students study up to four courses at a time using coursework assisted by Web-based PLATO Learning Systems and Accelerated Reader. Students maintain individual computers where there is connectivity to the internet.
